SCSU Athletic Department Places Second In Northeast-10 Presidents’ Cup Jun 6, 2012

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department has placed second out of 16 institutions in the 2011-12 Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup race. The Owls totaled 177 points to notch their highest finish and point total since joining the league. In the process, Southern Connecticut now has placed in the top three in the Presidents' Cup three times in the past four years. The Presidents' Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the Northeast-10 Conference and is awarded to the institution that compiles the most points based on the placement at the conclusion of the regular season of each of its programs which compete in league championships. SCSU is one of only two public institutions in the conference.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team is ranked No. 24 on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Top-25 Rankings. The Owls are coming off a weekend where they extended their streak of consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Championships to 20 on their home field at Jesse Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. The Owls dropped three spots from a week prior and are the only Northeast-10 Conference team ranked in the top-25.

No. 21 Men’s Track Wins 20th Consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Championship May 5, 2012

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 21 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team claimed victory to extend their streak to 20 consecutive indoor and outdoor Northeast-10 Conference Championships today at Jesse Down Field in New Haven, Conn. The Owls were represented in almost every event with a student athlete within the top-8 of 21 out of a possible 23 events scored and claiming top honors in seven events. Women’s Track Finish Runner-Up at Northeast-10 Conference Championship May 5, 2012

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track and field team finished runner-up at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships held on the Southern campus at Jesse Dow Field. The Owls' were within a taste of the lead going into the final event the 4 x 400 meter relay behind 179-172 to UMass-Lowell. The Owls needed to finish within the top-2 and have UMass finish outside of top-5, but the Owls were unable to capitalize finishing in a close second with 180 points. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track and field team is currently first with 58 points through five events at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships held on the Southern campus at Jesse Dow Field. Guerra (Stafford Springs, Conn.) of the No. 21 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team dominated the hammer throw event on the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship held at Jesse Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. MANKATO, Minn. – Sophomore Nick Lebron (Newington, Conn.) of the No. 3 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's indoor track and field team won the NCAA Division II National Championships in the heptathlon. The NCAA Division II Championship meet was held on the Minnesota State campus in Mankato, Minn. Lebron finished the event with a total of 5225 points and becomes the 19th NCAA Championship for the Owls' indoor track and field team since Dan Bourque won both the 35-pound weight and hammer throw titles during the 1998 season. He is also the 73rd individual NCAA title recipient in the program's history.

Athletic Department Makes Contribution To Connecticut Food Bank Nov 23, 2011

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A collection of non-perishable food products was taken to the Connecticut Food Bank warehouse in East Haven this week. The items were part of a series of initiatives during the fall that featured contributions from Southern Connecticut State University student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans. With the latest contribution, the Owls have donated approximately 1,000 pounds of food to the Connecticut Food Bank over the course of the past three years.

Redesigned Athletics Website Launched By SCSU Athletic Department Aug 15, 2011

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Department, in conjunction with SIDEARM Sports, has formally launched its newly redesigned athletic website. The department originally partnered up with SS in the fall of 2007 on a complete website relaunch and redesign of www.southernctowls.com. Since the formal relaunch on Jan. 2, 2008, there have been more than 5 million hits to the website.

TURLOCK, Calif. - Three members of the Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team - Corey DeLaCruz (Alamagorado, N.M.), Josh Perry (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.) - earned All-America honors in the 800 meters on the final day of the NCAA Championships on Saturday. Elliott Newest Addition to National Leader Board for Men’s Track May 11, 2011

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team has several members that rank among the best in the nation on the NCAA Division II national leader board. New this week to the leader board, Akeem Elliott (Greater Portmore, Jamaica) finished first in the long jump this past weekend at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. He holds the 17th best long jump in the nation with a leap of 7.30 meters.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team falls five spots to No. 24 in this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association outdoor rankings. Owls To Host 2011 New England Track and Field Championships This Weekend May 10, 2011

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut State University will host the 2011 New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships for both men and women. This event will take place on May 12-14, 2011. Women's Outdoor Track and Field Wins Third Straight Northeast-10 Championship May 7, 2011

LOWELL, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track team won their 3rd straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship collecting 196 total points in the team ranking through 21 events scored today. Coach Chris Covert was named Coach of the Year for the 2011 outdoor season, while Alasia Griebel (Bristol, Conn.) took first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:37.93 which surpasses the previous facility record held by Shauneen Garrahan of Amherst. Men's Outdoor Track and Field Wins 18th Straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship May 7, 2011

LOWELL, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team won its 18th straight Northeast-10 Conference Chanpionship today on the campus of UMass-Lowell. Diwani Augustine (East Hartford, Conn.) was named Athlete of the Meet for his performance at the championships. The men's coach, John Wallin, was named Coach of the Year for the 2011 outdoor season.

LOWELL, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track team had a stellar day one at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship claiming top honors in three of the eight events held today on the UMass-Lowell Campus. Akeem Elliott (Greater Portmore, Jamaica) claimed the top spot in the long jump with a leap of 7.30 meters beating his season best of 7.15 meters at the Yale Springtime Invite just a few days prior. NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's indoor track and field team moved up four spots to No. 8 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national indoor rankings this week on the heels of both a Northeast-10 Conference Championship and a third place finish at the New England Championship. This is the first time this season the men's track and field team has entered the top 10 in the national rankings. The Owls remain at No. 1 in the East Region for the sixth straight week.

Women’s Track Ranks No. 19 Nationally; No. 1 in East Region Mar 1, 2011

Annual Owl Golf Classic Set For May 24 At Lake of Isles Mar 1, 2011

The 2011 Annual Owl Golf Classic will take place on Tuesday, May 24 at the Lake of Isles North Course at Foxwoods Resort and Casino. This event provides an opportunity for alumni, fans and friends to support and encourage the academic and athletic growth of Southern's student-athletes. Women’s Track Fares Well on Day One of New England Championships Feb 25, 2011

BOSTON – The Southern Connecticut State University women's track and field team enjoyed a fine start to the New England Championships on Friday. The distance medley relay team placed second and their time of 11:51.51 was good enough to break a school record and rank as the seventh fastest time in Division II this year.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross country team received a United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team selection this Friday. BOSTON - The distance medley relay tandem of Corey DeLaCruz, Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.) and Josh Perry (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished second in that event for the Southern Connecticut State University men’s indoor track and field team at the Valentine’s Invitational on Friday. SCSU Athletic Department Places Record 188 Student-Athletes On Fall 2010 Commissioner’s Honor Roll Feb 10, 2011

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A record-total of 188 student-athletes from Southern Connecticut State University have been named to the Fall, 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. In order to be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded a minimum 3.0 semester grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the Fall, 2010 semester. This semester’s mark is the highest-figure in department history. Roughly half of all Owls’ student-athletes were recognized with this honor for their work during the fall semester.
