Selasi Lumax ranks among the top NCAA Division II Athletes.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's indoor track and field team has 11 student-athletes ranked among the NCAA Division II leaders in their respective events.

The Owls have no new additions to this week's NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track leader board after finishing in the top spot at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships held on Thursday.

In the distance medley relay, junior Josh Perry (Naugatuck, Conn.) teamed up with #Richard Jackson# (New Rochelle, N.Y.), #Selasi Lumax# (Somerset, N.J.), and Corey DeLaCruz (Alamagordo, N.M.) to run a time of 9:51.51 to break the previous school record of 9:54.68 and continue to rank second on the NCAA Division II national leader board.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Lumax, Nana Ocran (Manchester, Conn.), #Logan Sharpe# (Esperance, N.Y.) and #Twayne Forth# (Brooklyn, N.Y.) holds the fifth best national time in Division II thanks to a run of 3:13.62 at the Valentine Invitational. The Owls also hold the 21st time in the nation with a 4x400 relay team consisting of Sharpe, Forth, Ocran, and Jackson with a time of 3:17.39 ran at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships.

Cruz broke onto the national scene last week at the Valentine Invitational with an 800 meter time of 1:52.82 to rank ninth in the nation.

Sharpe holds 16th place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.35 at the Valentine Invitational.

Junior Russell Fallo (Redding, Conn.) ranks 15th in the long jump after a second place finish at the Manhattan/Fordham Tri-Meet, with a distance of 23 feet, 4.5 inches.

Senior Ryan Whitehead (Darien, Conn.) continues to rank in two categories with a heptathlon score of 4,880 points and a pole vault height of 15 feet, 11 inches achieved at the Metropolitan Indoor Championship. Whitehead fell to sixth and 10th, respectively, in the national rankings.

Lumax fell to 17th this week after posting a time of 1:53.54 at the Albany Great Dane Classic.

Senior #Patrick Waszczak# (Colchester, Conn.) remains fourth in the pole vault. At one point in the season, he ranked first in the nation a leap of 16 feet, 2.75 inches at the Yale Collegiate Invitational. In all, the Owls have two of the top 10 pole vaulting marks with Waszczak and Whitehead.

Jared Dixon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is now 17th in the high jump after his leap of 6 feet, 9.75 inches at the SCSU Alumni Meet with New Haven.

All of the marks meet NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards.

SCSU is back in action this Friday when it travels to Boston for the New England Championships.  The event is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and run into the following day.
