Josh Perry is among the Owls who are near the top of the NCAA Division II individual rankings.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's indoor track and field team has 11 student-athletes ranked among the NCAA Division II leaders in their respective events.

Joining the crop of student-athletes for the Owls are juniors Josh Perry (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Corey DeLaCruz (Alamogordo, N.M.). Perry ran the final leg of the distance medley relay that finished second at the 2011 Boston University Valentine Invitational. Perry's teammates were Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.), and DeLaCruz, whose time of 9:51.51 broke the previous school record of 9:54.68 and ranks second on the NCAA Division II national leader board.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Lumax, Nana Ocran (Manchester, Conn.), Logan Sharpe (Esperance, N.Y.) and Twayne Forth (Brooklyn, N.Y.) holds the fifth best national time in Division II thanks to a run of 3:13.62 at the Valentine Invitational held in Boston, Mass.

DeLaCruz also broke onto the national scene at the Valentine Invitational with an 800 meter time of 1:52.82 to rank sixth in the nation.

Sharpe holds 13th place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.35 ran at the Valentine Invitational.

Junior Russell Fallo (Redding, Conn.) ranks 11th in the long jump after a second place finish at the Manhattan/Fordham Tri-Meet on Wednesday, with a distance of 23 feet, 4.5 inches.

Senior Ryan Whitehead (Darien, Conn.) continued to rank in two categories with a heptathlon score of 4,880 points and a pole vault height of 15 feet, 11 inches achieved at the Metropolitan Indoor Championship. Whitehead fell to sixth and eighth, respectively, in the national rankings, in those events.

Lumax fell to 14th this week in the 800 meters after posting a time of 1:53.54 at the Albany Great Dane Classic.

Senior Patrick Waszczak (Colchester, Conn.) remains fourth in the pole vault. At one point in the season, he ranked first in the nation a leap of 16 feet, 2.75 inches at the Yale Collegiate Invitational. In all, the Owls have two of the top eight pole vaulting marks with Waszczak and Whitehead.

Jared Dixon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is now 16th in the high jump after his leap of 6 feet, 9.75 inches at the SCSU Alumni Meet with New Haven.

All of the marks meet NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards.

SCSU is back in action this Thursday when it travels to Boston, Mass. for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The event is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
