LOWELL, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track team won their 3rd straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship collecting 196 total points in the team ranking through 21 events scored today. Coach Chris Covert was named Coach of the Year, while Alasia Griebel (Bristol, Conn.) took first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:37.93 which surpasses the previous facility record held by Shauneen Garrahan of Amherst. Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) finished first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.19.Brittany Brown (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) took first in the high jump with a height cleared of 1.65 meters.

Samantha Spindel (Brewster, N.Y.) fresh off her first place finish in the discus throw from day one of the meet claimed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.35 meters.

The trio of Courtni Walker, Ashley Bell, and Castella Sahnique claimed third through fifth in the 100 meter dash with times of 12.23, 12.32, and 12.58, respectively. Walker also took third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.93 and beat the previous facility record.

The Owls claimed the top four spots in the pole vault with Kimberly Johnson (Lisbon, Conn.) leading the group with a height cleared of 3.45 meters. Niemczyk was second with a mark of 3.30 meters, while Alicia Gray (Colchester, Conn.) and Meghan Nicolletta (East Hampton, Conn.) were third and fourth with vaults of 3.30 and 3.00 meters, respectively.

Sarah Hill (Rockville, Conn.) claimed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.03.

Freshman Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.) finished second in the time 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.48.

Brown also took third in the 100 meter hurdles. Her time was 15.40.

Walker also took second in the long jump with a leap of 5.54 meters.

Kelsey Proctor (Guilford, Conn.) was third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:51.62.

Chelsea Gaglio (West Haven, Conn.) was second in the high jump with a mark of 1.63 meters.

The Owls will be back in action next weekend as they prepare for the New England Championships held on the Southern Connecticut State University campus on May 13-15.
