Nicole Strauss helped the Owls claimed a fifth place team score at the Metropolitan Championships held today.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. –The Southern Connecticut State University women's indoor track and field team claimed fifth place team score on the final day of competition at the Metropolitan Championships held on the campus of Manhattan College.

Brittany Brown (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) claimed second place honors and improved upon her No. 15 national rank in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.74. She also claimed third in the high jump with a height cleared of 1.70 meters.

For the Owls, both Elizabeth Bashir (Colchester, Conn.) and Aubrey Dowding (Warwick, R.I.) finished third and fourth in the shot put with heaves of 12.60 meters and 12.40 meters, respectively.

Samantha Spindel continues to place well in the weight throw this season setting a trend of multiple top-10 finishes for the Owls. She placed in 7th overall with a toss of 15.11 meters.

Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.) claimed ninth place in the 60 meters with a time of 7.90. She is currently ranked 18th in the event on the national qualifier leaderboard for a time of 7.75 achieved at the Yale Season Opener on Dec. 3rd.

Raysa Florentino (Groton, Conn.) managed to finish 11th in the 500 meters with a time of 1:18.08. She currently holds the top time on the team for the Owls in this event.

Jaclyn Sullivan (Lisbon, Conn.) managed a time of 3:04.79 in the 1000 meters en route to an eight place finish.
In 12th and 14th place for the Owls, Nicole Strauss (Shelton, Conn.) and Kiara Bonilla (Bristol, Conn.) ran the 5,000 meters with times of 19.41.10 and 20:51.96, respectively.

The 4,000 meter distance medley team of Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.), Brown, Chloe Ashcroft (Shelton, Conn.) and Sullivan were sixth with a time of 12:37.70 falling behind such schools as Stony Brook, Columbia, and NYU.

Chelsea Gaglio (West Haven, Conn.) was tied for 11th in the high jump with a cleared height of 1.55 meters.

Freshman Bria Moore (West Hartford, Conn.) managed to finish tied for 15th in the triple jump with a distance of 10.45 meters.

The Owls will be back in action scheduled to compete at both the Gigenback Invitational in New Haven, Conn. on Feb. 3-4 and the New Balance Invitational on Feb. 3-4 this upcoming weekend.
