BOSTON - The 4x400 relay quartet of Shaina Barr (Manchester, Conn.), Raysa Florentino (Groton, Conn.), Sarah Hill (Rockville, Conn.) and Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) placed fourth overall with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:51.31 to lead the way for the Southern Connecticut State University women's indoor track and field team during day one action at the Valentine's Invitational on Friday. The group posted the eighth fastest time in the NCAA Division II ranks this season in the process.

The Owls also received strong individual efforts from Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.) in the 200 meters and Hill in the 400 meters. Bell's time of 25.25 in the 200 was eighth overall and just missed out on a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Hill did reach a NCAA provisional qualifying time in placing ninth in the 400 in 57.44.

Titlayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.) placed 18th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.34. However, that time was the ninth fastest in Division II this year and was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

The Owls also received a top-20 finish from Daira Veloz in the 400 meters, as she placed 18th.

Day two action begins at 10:45 a.m. tomorrow.
