NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five members of the Southern Connecticut State University women's cross country team have been selected to the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team. The group consists of Megan Carroll (Shelton, Conn.), Alasia Griebel (Bristol, Conn.), Nicole Strauss (Shelton, Conn.), Jaclyn Sullivan (Lisbon, Conn.) and Titilayo Vanriel (Hartford, Conn.).

Griebel excelled on the course and in the classroom during the fall semester. She was a NCAA qualifier during the cross country campaign and also collected All-Region, Regional Runner-up and All-Conference laurels. She carries a 3.84 cumulative grade point average. Griebel is a two-time All-Region and All-Conference honoree for her cross country career.

Carroll, Strauss, Sullivan and Vanriel were all regulars in the Owls' lineup this fall and helped the team post a third place finish at the NCAA Regionals and a fifth place mark at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team in Division II, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or greater through the most-recent semester, completed at least 12 credit hours in the semester of cross country competition, and placed in the top 50 percent at the most recent NCAA National Championships or in the top 30 percent at the NCAA Regional Championships.
