A.J. Guerra threw a NCAA provisional mark in the hammer toss today at the Sam Howell Invitational.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team competed in day one of the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey today. Leading the charge for the Owls, A.J. Guerra (Stafford Springs, Conn.) threw a NCAA divisional mark in the hammer throw with a 56.83 meter toss. The 4x400 meter relay team of Logan Sharpe (Esperance, N.Y.), Twayne Forth (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.), and Stenson Jean-Baptiste (Stratford, Conn.) took first with a time of 3:17.35.

Joseph Poulsen (Oxford, Conn.) took fifth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:02:54.  He finished above participants from such notable schools as Yale, Boston College, and Navy.

Casey Chanda (Royal, Ark) took fourth with a time of 15.24 in the 110 meter hurdles. He also finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.68.

Jean-Baptiste took sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.35, while Forth and Lumax rounded out the top nine with times of 49.85 and 49.88, respectively.

The 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Russell Fallo (Redding, Conn.), Jean-Baptiste, Nana Ocran (Manchester, Conn.),  and Diwani Augustine (East Hartford, Conn.) placed fourth with a time of 42.32 in the finals.

Josh Perry (Nagatuck, Conn.) claimed fourth place honors with a time of 1:54.34 in the 800 meter dash.

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey.
