MANHATTAN, N.Y. – Josh Perry (Naugatuck, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University men's indoor track and field team broke a 28 eight year old record held by Chris Chisholm set back in 1984. As a team, the Owls claimed a fourth place team score on the final day of competition at the Metropolitan Championships held on the campus of Manhattan College. Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.), and members of the 4 x 400 meter relay team also claimed top honors during the meet.

Perry finished first in the one mile run with a time of 4:07.31. With this time, he currently stands as the top mile runner in Division II.

Lumax claimed top honors in the 500 meters with a time of 1:03.17 edging out student athletes from St. Peter's and Fordham. Stenson Jean-Baptiste (Stratford, Conn.) finished just a few seconds behind his fellow teammate in fourth place with a time of 1:05.18.

The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Fred Boateng (Hamden, Conn.), Jean-Baptiste, Twayne Forth (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Thomas Phommalinh (New Britain, Conn.) finished first in the event with a time of 3:15.64 and hold the fifth best time in the nation for Division II. In other events, Forth was 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 50.75.

Currently ranked No. 8 in the country for the long jump for a measurement obtained at the UConn Winter Invite, Akeem Elliott claimed fourth place with a distance of 6.94 meters.

In the 800 meters, Brian Robbins (Bristol, Conn.) claimed his second straight top 10 finish in as many events in fourth place with a time of 1:55.45. He is ranked sixth in the nation with a time of 1:53.78 achieved at the Great Dane Classic a week ago.

Enis Bukalo (Derby, Conn.) was fourth in the shot put with a heave of 16.19 meters, while Michael Cameron (Hartford, Conn.) finished in seventh with a toss of 14.82 meters.

Connor Coleman (Gunnison, Colo.) finished in 7th place in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.67, while freshman Robert Merritt (West Harrison, N.Y.) claimed 9th with a time of 8.81. Coleman also finished tied for 9th in both the high jump with a height cleared of 1.84 meters and in the pole vault with a feat of 4.20 meters.  He also competed in the long jump and took home 12th place with a distance of 6.62 meters.

Brian Nill (Ridge, N.Y.) claimed 10th place with a time of 4:20.37 in the one mile.

The 4,000 meter distance medley team was fifth with a time of 10:21.34. The team consisted of Nill, Daniel Candelaria (New Haven, Conn.), Chris Babcock (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Joseph Poulsen (Oxford, Conn.).

With a time of 8:59.31, Paul Ryskowski (Bristol, Conn.) finished in 9th place in the 3000 meters.

Russell Fallo (Redding, Conn.) managed an 11th place finish in the 60 meters with a time of 7.11 and 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 22.78. He also claimed 11th in the long jump with a leap of 6.66 meters.

The Owls will be back in action scheduled to compete at both the Gigenback Invitational in New Haven, Conn. on Feb. 3-4 and the New Balance Invitational on Feb. 3-4 this upcoming weekend.
