Cruz Named Co-Track Athlete of the Week; Lumax, Elliott Selected to Honor Roll
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Corey DeLaCruz (Alamogordo, N.M. ) of the Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team was named Co-Track Athelete of the Week with Macky Llyod of Saint Rose. Cruz finished first in the 800 meter run, while posting a NCAA provisional time of 1:51.41. He also holds the second best time in the nation for a NCAA Division II athlete in the 800 meter run. Cruz also helped his 4x400 meter relay team finish third at the UConn Invite with a time of 3:20.25.
Joining Cruz with weekly honor roll, Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.) and Akeem Elliott (Greater Portmore, Jamaica) were selected by the Northeast-10 conference. Lumax finished just five-hundredths of a second behind Cruz in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:51.46 to reach a NCAA provisional mark and holds the third best time in the nation. He also competed in the 4x400 meter relay and claimed third with a time of 3:20.25. Elliott claimed his second straight meet win in the long jump with a distance of 6.9 meters. He also reached an NCAA provisional mark.
The Owls will be back in action this weekend at they travel to the Metropolitan Championships in New Brunswick, N.J. on Apr. 15-16.
