NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) of the women's swimming and diving team and senior Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.) of the men's indoor track and field team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University/Comcast Athletes of the Month for February.

Thomas broke three Northeast-10 Conference records and was the Most Outstanding Performer of the league championship for the third consecutive year as the Owls won their ninth straight team title during the month. She set new marks in the 200 butterfly (2:01.22), 200 individual medley (2:03.29) and the 100 butterfly (54.82). Thomas also swam a leg on the winning 800 freestyle relay tandem.

This year, Thomas has posted the top time in Division II in the 200 butterfly (2:01.22). Thomas also has the No. 2 time in the 100 butterfly (54.82) and the fourth best in the 200 individual medley (2:03.29). She is the reigning NCAA Division II champion in the 200 individual medley

Lumax, the 2012 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Region Track Athlete of the Year, will compete in the 4x400 relay, distance medley relay and 800 meters at the NCAA Championships. He is coming off a New England Championship in the 800 meters last weekend that set a New England record and qualified him for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. Lumax also earned All-Region honors in the 4x400 relay, distance medley relay and 800 meters and was a Northeast-10 Conference Champion in the 4x800 relay.

For the fourth consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Month' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Month' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
