NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Alasia Griebel (Bristol, Conn.) of the women's indoor track and field team and junior Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.) of the men's indoor track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for February.

Griebel helped the Owls win the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship and post a program-best third place finish at the New England Championships. She was the Northeast-10 Champion in the mile and also ran a leg on the 4x800 and distance medley relays that claimed first place. Griebel then collected All-New England honors by virtue of a second place finish with the distance medley relay team that set a new school record in the process, as well as in the 1,000 meters. She has qualified for the NCAA Championship with the DMR unit.

Lumax also played a pivotal role in the Owls' outstanding month, a stretch in which they won their 17th consecutive Northeast-10 Championship and ninth in a row indoors, as well as a program-best third-place finish at the New England Championships. He was the Northeast-10 Champion in the 1,000 meters and also went on to collect All-New England honors in the 800 meters and the 4x400 relay. He has the fastest time in all of Division II in the 800 meters thus far and has set new school records in the 800 meters and as part of the distance medley and 4x400 relays.

For the third consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Month' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Month' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
