Freshman Michelle Grecni named Field Rookie of the Week by the Northeast-10 Conference for the second straight week.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's indoor track and field team was named Field Rookie of the Week by the Northeast-10 Conference for the second week in a row. Grecni managed her second straight first place finish in as many events in the pole vault and reached a NCAA provisional mark by clearing 3.5 meters at the James Barber/Wilton Wright Alumni Meet held at Moore Field House on the Southern Conn. campus this past Sunday.

Joining Grecni this week with honors, Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.), Brittany Brown (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) all received weekly honor roll selections.

Bell claimed first with a time of 7.76 in the 60 meter dash and second place in the 400 meter dash on day two of the Brother Jasper Invitational this weekend.

Brown broke the school record and reached a NCAA provisional mark in the pentathlon event on day one of the Brother Jasper Invitational with a total score of 3662. She also managed to clear 5 ft. 8 inches in the high jump to obtain her fourth provisional mark in four different events this season.

Niemczyk finished first in the 400 meter with a time of 59.35 on day two of the Brother Jasper Invite and first in the 60 meter hurdles at the James Barber/Wilton Wright Alumni Meet.

The Owls finished the 2011 part of their indoor season to a much deserved winter break before heading back to competition in the New Year on Jan. 7 for the UConn Tri-Meet to be held in Storrs, Conn.
