NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Six members of the Southern Connecticut State University women's indoor track and field team – seniors Ashley Bell (Riverhead, N.Y.) and Samantha Spindel (Brewster, N.Y.), juniors Kimberly Johnson (Lisbon, Conn.), Brittany Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) and Jaclyn Sullivan (Lisbon, Conn.) and sophomore Amanda Arcand (Vernon, Conn.) – have been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for selection to the academic all-conference teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR).

Bell was named to the All-Academic Team for the third consecutive year and has been selected both indoors and outdoors. This winter, she was the Northeast-10 Conference champion in both the 55 meters and the 200 meters. Bell earned All-Region honors in the 60 meters and the 200 meters and was also an All-New England honoree in the 200 meters. She is a mathematics major with a 3.46 GPA.

Spindel was selected to the squad after a fine campaign in the throwing events. She was an All-Region selection in the weight throw and placed third in that event at the NE-10 Championships. Spindel is a biology major with a 3.46 GPA.

Johnson is also a repeat selection, as she has named to both the indoor and outdoor All-Academic Teams previously. This winter, she was the Northeast-10 champion in the pole vault and was also selected All-Region and All-New England. She is an exercise science major with a 3.68 GPA.

Niemczyk also lands a spot on the team once again this year. She was an All-Region pick in both the 400 meters and the pole vault but missed out on championships action due to injury. She is a nursing major with a 3.42 GPA.

Sullivan was selected once again after having previously earned indoor and outdoor All-Academic honors in her career. She placed third at the Northeast-10 Championships in both the 4x800 relay and the 1,000 meters. Sullivan is an exercise science major with a 3.89 GPA.

Arcand earns her first nod to the All-Academic squad. During the winter, she placed 11th at the Northeast-10 Championships in the 3,000 meters. She is a nursing major with a 3.85 GPA.
