Stenson Jean-Baptiste was one of four Owls to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four members of the Southern Connecticut State University men's track and field team – A.J. Guerra (Stafford Springs, Conn.), Patrick Waszczak (Colchester, Conn.), Stenson Jean-Baptiste (Stratford, Conn.) and Logan Sharpe (Esperance, N.Y.) – have been named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Academic Track and Field Team.

It's the second straight selection to the team for Waszczak, Jean-Baptiste and Sharpe.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division II indoor or outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard.

Guerra enjoyed a strong rookie season for the Owls. He earned All-Region honors in both the weight throw and the hammer throw during the course of the year. He also collected All-New England honors in the hammer throw and was the Northeast-10 Conference champion in that event.

Jean-Baptiste was previously named to both the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Teams. During the outdoor campaign, he was a NCAA qualifier in the 4x400 relay and was All-Region in the 400 meters, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. He also collected All-New England honors in the 4x100 and 4x400 and was the New England runner-up as part of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. He was also the Northeast-10 Conference champion as part of the 4x100 relay. Jean-Baptiste maintains a 3.44 cumulative grade point average.

Sharpe, who was also named to the NE-10 Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Teams, had a solid spring for the Owls in 2011. He was a NCAA qualifier in the 4x400 relay and was All-Region and All-New England in both the 4x400 relay and the 400 hurdles. Sharpe was also the New England runner-up in the 4x400 relay and the Northeast-10 Conference runner-up in the 400 hurdles. He carries a 3.45 cumulative grade point average.

Waszczak, who was also named to the league's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Teams and was also the Indoor Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winner, capped his collegiate career with a fine outdoor campaign. He was a NCAA Qualifier and was All-Region and All-New England in the pole vault. The New England runner-up in the pole vault, Waszczak carries a 3.36 cumulative grade point average.

A total of 162 student-athletes representing 63 institutions were recognized with the honor.
