Inside The Track Jan 3, 2012

When it comes to Uconn Track and Field, the most important meet of the season is the Big East Championship. For this meet the whole team comes together and gives it their all. Everyone pushes through the pains they have, put aside all the bad thoughts that are unrelated to track, and compete to the best of their abilities just to be able to hold that trophy at the end of the weekend. So what does a team do after they win Indoor Big East? A few go on to the next meet but everyone sets their sights on becoming the best Outdoor Track and Field team in the Big East. On May 8th, it was an amazing feeling for all of us to be in the middle of the Villanova field holding yet another trophy, a feat that hasn't been done in nine years.Like the 2002 team our focus was on what we needed to do to win both titles again this year. We knew that we lost some people that greatly contributed to the win last year and that we would have to train very hard this year to achieve our goal. Upon arrival to school this year it seemed the coaches, upperclassman, and freshmen all knew and embraced the pressure to repeat. With a new coach came new workouts and twists to the old ones. Everyone worked hard, pushing the team to get better as a whole. This attitude proved to pay off when it came time to compete at the annual Blue-White meet. For this meet the coaches split the team into two smaller ones and we competed against each other. While the main objective is to show coaches that we haven't gotten worse, the meet is more laid back and fun than a meet against another team would be. Here most people displayed they were ready for the upcoming seasons. It also confirmed that all the hard work and changes paid off. Many people on the team took these performances and came to the same conclusion. When it came time to compete at the big meets there is no way we will not come out victorious.
