Arroyo, Blake Blast Fast Times At Region Of Death Jason Byrne Nov 10, 2012

It was a chilly morning in Gainesville as Santa Fe College hosted both the 4A Region 1 and 1A Region 2 Championships. Fast times were posted as Andres Arroyo went 15:12.61 and Bridget Blake of Dr. Phillips finished first in 17:56.18. Both runners won by over twenty seconds. Colonial edged Mandarin for the boys team title while Olympia beat out Hagerty for the girls team title.

All systems are go for the High Rock to Freeport Road race, this Saturday, November 10.

The road race took a one-year hiatus last year, but will be back this year, with even more excitement among participants.

Hurdler Lolo Jones Wins Silver in Bobsled Debut Jason Byrne Nov 09, 2012

After finishing fourth place in the 100 hurdles in London, popular American runner Lolo Jones decided to take a break from the indoor track & field circuit and try a different sport this winter: bobsled! After working out for a couple a of months with Team USA, Lolo made her debut in the sport in a big way. She and driver Jazmine Fenlator finished with the silver medal in the 2012 season World Cup opener in Lake Placid, NY.

Rafaella Gibbons won here in September and wins at Holloway Park again with a PR and state championship of 11:41. Julian Elortegui, on the other hand, was running at Holloway for the first time and did well to earn his first state title in 10:21.

Maclay swept both genders, team and individual titles. Kristin Sweeny and Elizabeth Santoro went 1-2 for the Marauders, leading them to a mere 21 points and a 21:41 average. For the boys it was Jake Rutledge up front for Maclay in 16:54. They scored 29 points to Lincoln's 54.

Here comes the BAAA general election held every three years and the Bahamas Olympic Committee's (BOC) general election held every four years. About 30 years ago, the Bahamas Amateur Athletic Association, which was founded in 1952, held elections every year. At some point, the president was able to serve for four years. In the two years since the last Collier County Athletic Conference cross country meet, things haven't changed much. Gulf Coast's Caroline Barlow and Palmetto Ridge's Carlos Miranda won the individual titles, while the Sharks girls and Naples boys took the team trophies. These rankings are completely objective. Each team is scored based on their strength by season best times of their top five runners. Courses obviously vary in cross country, but at this point of season everyone has had a chance to run a fast course so these rankings should prove to be fairly accurate to reality!
