Boys: Defending Champions- Suffield 46, Ellington 57 and Maximillian Sparks of Canton
According to long time Ellington coach, Aaron Flamino, "Suffield boys are the clear favorite, after that it is pretty wide open. As for individuals, Taylor Nay and Max Sparks, will battle it out for the individual title. " Nick Sinofsky would have been in the mix, but the Ellington coach has reported that he has transferred to a private school in Massachusetts.
Sparks, a rising senior is defending NCCC champion and qualified for New Englands last fall with a 20th place finish in the State Open. Nay had outstanding freshman finishing 5th in Class SS to earn All State status. The freshman finished his year running the freshman sections in the mile and two mile at New Balance outdoor nationals.
Girls: Defending Champion Ellington 41, Canton 49
While Ellington is defending champion, Flamino feels "there isn't a dominant team in the league right now but Suffield, Somers and probably Ellington will probably battle it out. Somers girls are returning 2-5. If they trained, they could be good. I'm not sure we're the favorite."
Top Returners- Kylie Raymond of Somers and Lia Guerette of Ellington are the top returners, but according to Flamino, Kathryn Bonanno "has really closed the gap from cross country to outdoor track."
