Class LL's Top Teams
Conard won the LL title by a big margin back in 2019 but this year the Chieftan guys fell three shy of the 732 boys enrollment figure needed for the biggest class and are down in L. Staples was the runner-up in 2019, and though only Zachary Taubman is still around from the varsity back then, the Wreckers have the best returning 5K time average from last year. The time average however is based on times from an intrasquad meet where the Staples guys all ran a half minute faster than they did at the FCIAC championship, and the Wreckers lost five of their eight guys there to graduation. Ridgefield had by far the best results at FCIAC last year, and though the Tigers lost their top three to graduation, they may still be the favorites for the FCIAC-LL-Open trifecta. Trumbull returns three of its top four from the FCIAC - East winning squad and should be in the chase, and 3rd-place Fairfield Ludlowe from the same race has a good start with its top two back.
Over in the CCC, Hall and Southington were two of the top teams in the league championships last year, and the Warriors have three returners and the Knights have four. Manchester's top guy Aidan Puffer will be the leading returner from the 2019 Class LL race where he was the runner-up, and his Red Hawk squad could be dangerous if it can find some depth.
