Bloomfield Does It Again, Immaculate Takes 1st Ever State Title

Its was the beginning of the Obama presidency when the Bloomfield girls last lost a Class S title and they came to dominate the state meet once again winning 127 to Immaculate's 44 points.

Cassidy Palmer broke Shayla Wallace's 21 year old meet record in the 55m with a time of 7.03.  Her teammate Brittany Jones also took down Diane Potkay's meet record from 1996 with a heave of 43'05

Bloomfield also scored big points in the 300m where Palmer led Jillian Mars and Andrea Mills to a 1-2-4 finish for 22 team points.  Mills and Palmer joined Zaidra James and Cheyenne Brown to break the meet record with a time of 1:44.25 to defeat runner up Canton by seven seconds.

Bloomfield's other wins came in the 55HH where James ran an 8.55, the 4 x 400m won by nine seconds with a time of 4:08.66, and Jahleah Harris' 17-04.25 in the long jump.  That gave them seven wins out of 15 events.

Usually the fastest times in the state come from large school, but besides Bloomfield's outstanding performances, Class S had their fair share of distance stars.  Conginchaug's Alexandra Alsup ran the 4th fastest time in the state with a 3:00.44 in the 1000m.  Sophomore Emily Sienna of Hale Ray has become on of the state's bests distance runners and she proved it by pulling off a tough triple.  She finished 2nd behind Alsup in the 1000m, then came back to win the 1600m and 3200m.

While the girl's meet had all the suspense of a North Korean election, Immaculate hasn't broken into the top 10 in several years but pulled out a dominate performance to win their first ever state title in indoor track and broke up the Bloomfield boys four year winning streak.  

The Mustangs had winning performances from Christian Morris in the 600m, Sean Fahey in the long jump and the 4 x 400m of Morris, Dominick Curra, Matt Christe and Fahey.

While Immaculate took home the team title, the title of fastest individual went to Mark Doyley of Weaver. The All American sprinter dominated the 55m running 6.42 and the 300m in 34.92, which is only .28 off Olympian Jerome Young's meet record.

In the 3200m, Sean Parker of Shepaug Valley went out from the gun to run a fast time.  He went through the 1600m in 4:43, which was on pace to break All American Gavin Coombs' meet record.  His pace faltered with a lack of competition but he showed he will be a force at the State Open

Senior Travis Shaskok of Windham made a nearly five foot indoor PR in the shot and was the first Connecticut boy to break 50ft with a throw of 51'2.75
