Lightening Leah leads the 800m
Sophomore Leah Sarkisian of Danbury had a little help from her teammate and good friend Olivia Turk, who agreed to set a strong pace the first lap of the girls' 800m. Once Turk dropped back, Sarkisian had a few yards on the rest of the field and held off all challengers, running a school record of 2:13.18. Coming on strong over the last 150m was New Milford junior Mia Nahom, who edged out the Ridgefield duo Katherine Jasminski and Laura Hergenrother, with a time of 2:14.12. Jasminski was third in 2:14.20 for Jasminski and Hergenrother was timed in 2:15.45 for fourth. Along with Anna Lander and Ava Kelley who finished fifth and tenth, the Tigers combined for a composite 4x800m time of 9:09.17, which is within ear shot of the state record set last year by Tolland when they ran 9:06.75 at NBON.
