Two meets records fall during Day 1 of Irv Black Invite


Day 1 of the Irv Black Invitational saw two meet records broken on Friday.

In a tight race, East Catholic's Emma Dolan held off Coginchaug's Samantha Drop in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with both runners breaking the meet mark. Dolan was timed in 7:18.19 (US #16) and Drop crossed the line at 7:19:08 (US #19).

The other record was set by Rhode Island's Bobby Colantonio in the hammer throw. Colantonio improved on his nation's best with a heave of 250-9. Also breaking the record was second-place finisher Jared Briere of Woonsocket, who had a distance of 201-02.

Another event of note was the boys' 4x800m where .62 determined the winner. Hampden claimed gold with a winning time of 8 minutes, 1.37 seconds. Staples was second at 8:01.98.
