Curious what running in college might be like? Wondering if
you might one day have what it takes to break four in the mile? Interested in
what a typical day is like for a pro? Or, more broadly, perhaps you are not
sure how to manage your ever-changing body as you race to adulthood? These are
just a few of hundreds of topics Wilton HS alum Spencer Brown and his
girlfriend Allie Ostrander deftly weave into hardcore training videos across
their YouTube channels. Both Spencer (Georgetown) and Allie (Boise State) ran
in college and then professionally for Brooks.
Milesplit caught up with Allie and Spencer at the 45th annual five mile Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day race on November 24th. Allie not just won the storied race, but smashed the course record in the process. Her time of 27:13 (5:27 per mile) was good for 20th overall among the nearly 3000 entered. Spencer finished second overall, just two seconds behind, running 24:31 (4:54 per mile).
Spencer began his YouTube channel back in 2016 under the name The Athlete Special. To date, he has amassed nearly 14M aggregate views. Spencer's videos often feature other standout Connecticut athletes, such as Ari Klau (Hall), Randy Neish (Glastonbury), and Henry Wynne (Staples). Allie started her own channel about a year ago. Prior to that, she was busy winning 12 All-American honors, 3 NCAA D1 titles in the 3k steeplechase, and earning a spot on team USA at the 2019 World Championships. Spencer and Allie live in Seattle with their dachshund Georgie.
