Week 3 Wrap-up: Over 40 State Bests Set at Weekend Meets


In a wild weekend of top performances at a variety of big meets, Ralphael Hawkins of Hillhouse may have best exemplified the farflung action as he sprinted to a CT best of 21.87 in the 200m while taking 3rd at the New York Relays on Friday night and then got the state best in the 100m at 10.71 in the 100m on Saturday at the Hillhouse Invite.

Of course, Hawkins' teammate Gary Moore Jr was in much the same rhythm as he got the CT best in the discus at the New York Relays at 180-7 after topping the boards in the shot put at 63-8.25 on Wednesday in dual action with Hamden and Cheshire. The Academics' Olivia O'Connor also was busy as she got the CT discus beat at 131-1 at Hillhouse the day after winning the hammer throw at NY Relays, and she also got the shot put best at 38-6.25 in Wednesday's dual meet.

On the boys side, top CT marks were set by Wilbur Cross's Nikita Omelchenko in the 1600m at 4:25.08 at Hillhouse, by Xavier's Eamon Burke in the mile at 4:23.42 at Hall's CT Distance Festival on Friday, by Newington's Michael Bohlke in the 5000m at 14:39.94 at the Distance Festival, by Danbury's Adrian Guerrero in the 2K steeplechase at 7:42.26 at the NY Relays, by Hillhouse's Matthew Gibbs in the 400m hurdles at 54.90 at NY Relays, by Hall's 4x100m team at 43.21 and Staples 4x800m squad at 8:08.47 at Hillhouse, by Danbury's sprint medley relay team at 3:36.94 in a 2nd at NY Relays, by Danbury's 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay at 1:15.15, and Capital Prep's Mehki Tyson-Slaughter in the triple jump at 45-4 at Hillhouse.

For the girls, Danbury's Alanna Smith waited until the weekend's action to clear out to run a 56.67 in the 400m on Monday in a meet against Norwalk. In weekend action, Bloomfield's D'Jior Delisser got the CT best of 12.45 in the 100m at Hillhouse, Simsbury's Olivia Birney got the mile best of 5:04.24 at the CT Distance Festival, Hillhouse's Leonaya Knox did the 100H best of 15.29 and Naugatuck's Allison Murphy got the 300H best of 46.12 at Hillhouse, Greenwich's Haley Townsend did 1:09.31 in the 400H at NY Relays, and distance stars Stephanie Queiroz of Danbury  and Rachel St. Germain of Somers got the 3000m best of 10:41.63 at NY Relays and the 5000m best of 17:12.69 at the CT Distance Festival, respectively. Among the relay squads, Sheehan got the best 4x100m time of 48.95 on Thursday in a meet against Hillhouse, and Danbury got the top SMR time of 4:54.02 and a winning 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay time of 1:10.34 at NY Relays. In the field events, Bloomfield's D'Jior Delisser also picked up the top long jump mark of 19-1 (7 inches off state record), her teammate Laniyah Henderson got the top triple jump mark at 36-10, and Bristol Eastern's Mackenzie Fitzsimons got the javelin best at 118-10, all at Hillhouse.
