William Hall senior Jenna Zydanowicz won her third straight Haddad Windham Invitational on Saturday to kick off her 2019 cross country season. Zydanowicz had plenty of competition to push her as late in the race entering the final mile, Zydanowicz still had Manchester senior Kate Hedlund and Somers senior Kylie Raymond to deal with.
However, the sub 5 minute miler Zydanowicz was able to pull away in the final mile for a 14 second margin of victory in 18:35 ahead of runner-up Hedlund (2nd, 18:49) and Raymond also got under 19 minutes on the Windham High School 3 mile course in third place at 18:55.
Zydanowicz also headed up a victorious squad from William Hall as she had five teammates behind her finish among the top 14 places to tally a low team score of 38 points and average 19:57 as a group. Tolland was the runner-up squad with 88 points and led by two sophomores in Peyton Bornstein (7th, 20:00) and Calista Mayer (8th, 20:02).
