Girls CIAC Class Championships Anticipation Blowout

Two and a half days of a quintuplet of CIAC Class meets are upon us. We wish we could give you some pithy predictions and in-depth analysis of every event in the Class LL, L MM, M, and S meets, but attempting such a task is impossible. No one knows for sure which events a multitalented athlete like Danbury's Alanna Smith who is top ranked in Class LL in the 100m, 200m and 400m will be doing for sure (maybe 99.9% sure). We don't know which relay events a team may be concentrating its resources in. We're not filled on the health status of all the top athletes. Best thing to do is just to let it all roll and pass out some possibly useful data.

First, for each of the classes we have pulled the top 8 performers in each event. The mile and 2 mile are included with the eighteen events contested at the Class meets because some of the top distance runners posted their best times there instead of in the 1600m or 3200m. Second, as a fun predictive exercise, we have provided a virtual meet team score based on the rankings, including ten places rather than the eight used at the Class meets and basing the scoring on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 system. Including ten athletes provides a wider and likely truer picture of the athletes who will be battling it out for places at the meet, though it does put 17 extra points into play for each event. Our virtual meets generator does not allow for the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system used in CT. So although the team scores in the virtual meet are inflated, the relative placement of the teams might be fairly accurate.
