CIAC State Open Preview

After a two-year wait, the CIAC Open is roaring back with some major kind of ferocity. 30 stupendously exciting events spanning the boys and girls are on tap for this Saturday. Each has 18 qualifiers, though some events (especially the distance ones) will be scratched down to the 12-14 range, and the vertical events (high jump and pole vault) may have up to 22 competitors due to ties at the final qualifying spot.

Two years ago the Glastonbury girls and Bloomfield guys were dominant champs. Fairfield Ludlowe's Tess Stapleton in the 55H, Norwich Free Academy's Paige Martin in the pole vault, and Conard's Gavin Sherry in the 3200m all shattered meet records (and two were then state records). The outlook for meet and state records is about the same this year, though two of the guys (both of whom had big performances in the  2020 Open) would be breaking their own SRs.

Lists here include all qualifying individual athletes and the top ten relay teams. Everything begins at noon. Tune in, get turned on, and have a whole lot of fun. Coverage is live on MileSplit.

Note: Apologies to the Class LL athletes and fans for the tardy response to dealing with the missing race files from the meet, but everything should now be about complete for the 1000-600-55H finals-55 finals-1600-SMR-4x400. For inquiries about a missing race video for any CT meet that MileSplit filmed, please contact: Where's My File?  Include meet and race info, such as "Class LL, Section 3 of Boys 600m"

And also: the MileSplit broadcasting team for the Open will located in the middle of the balcony that looms over the far side of the track. Stop by to talk about your big winning day or maybe that future one for the MileSplit interviews.
