CIAC Class Championship Wrap-up: Streakers and Shockers

Boys Class LL

There were no huge surprises in the boys LL competition as Hall powered to its fourth straight title by 88-55 over Greenwich. The Warriors got a huge boost from their relay teams with three wins and a total of 34 points as 600m winner Tobias Ruffo helped boost the 4x400m and 4x800m teams to wins.

The winners were all among the top three seeds entering the meet. Three of the best battles on the day were in the 55m dash and hurdles and the 4x800m. Both Tristan Burke and Norwich free Academy's Dangelo Aristilde came into the 55m with 6.59 seed times and blazed to victory in prelims, but Burke had the edge in finals by 6.51 to 6.54. Southington's John Regalbuti ran a sizzling 7.93 in the 55H  in prelims, but the favorite Blake Battaglia got the lean in the finals to edge Regalbuti by 8.01 to 8.02. Manchester's Aidan Puffer got the stick in the 4x800m about three or four second behind Ruffo on the last leg for Hall. Puffer quickly sprinted into the lead and opened up a ten meter gap on Ruffo, but the Warrior anchor surged back at the top of the final straightaway to win by about a half second.

Gianluca Bianchi had an impressive 300m win, while Tyler Bartlett in the 1000m and Nikita Omelchenko in the 1600m were close to their PRs that they ran in their League meets.

The big guy (very literally) in the field events was Jamil Manu who took the high jump at his seed height and then topped his previous best in the long jump to go 21-1. Steven Ditelberg skyed to 14-0 to win the pole vault, and Marques Singleton got a PR to pull off a bit of an upset in the shot put.
