Gavin Sherry Breaks Millrose Record to Capture Boys Mile

Conard's Gavin Sherry went to a new historic level as he broke away from a challenge at the 3/4 mile mark to win the boys mile pretty much wire to wire in a record and personal indoor best of 4:06.58. His last quarter mile was run in a sizzling 58.95 as he blasted away from challenger James Donahue of Belmont MA who finished 2nd. The previous best time for the boys mile at the meet was 4:07.24 by Noah Affolder of Carlisle PA in 2017. Pending final authorization by CT, Sherry's time is a little better than the state record mark of 4:06.72 that he ran three weeks ago at the Armory in the Hispanic Games.

Gavin's brother Callum Sherry finished 7th in a time of 4:13.47, about two seconds off his PB.

There were a group of other CT athletes who were able to make it down to the Armory to compete in the Millrose Games despite the blizzard raging outside the walls. Gary Moore Jr. of Hillhouse and Alex Krause of Coventry actually competed on Thursday in the weight throw instead of Saturday. Moore launched a 70-3.75 toss to place 4th, and Krause took 7th with a throw of 57-1. Many of the CT competitors scheduled to compete on Saturday were not able to travel, but Danbury's Alanna Smith got to the line for a packed 300m race and placed 10th in a time of 39.96.

One last submission from Jeff Mitchell at the Millrose Games meet. Gavin Sherry with Cole Hacker and Cooper Teare of the Adidas team who placed 3rd and 2nd in the Men's 3200m
