Girls MM Division
Class L champion Pomperaug has moved down to Class MM and that will make things tougher for the 
other teams in this class. They are led by sophomore Kate Wiser who broke the SWC record by about a minute and she is backed up by Maddie Villa who is rounding into shape. In fact their entire top five ran faster at SWCs than they have all season, so it appears that they are peaking well.
Tolland's runners might be missing a front runner, but they have enough depth to contend for a top two finish to automatically make the Open. Avon lost four of their top seven from last year's championship team but they still have enough experience to be mentioned as a top two finisher. ECC champions East Lyme is a lot like Tolland. They both have strength in their pack. The secret for both teams is to get their 5th runner in before the 22 minute mark. That is when streams of runners start finishing and every five seconds could be four or five points.
No disrespect to any of the other great runners in the field, but Wiser could fall down, lose her shoe, borrow one from someone in the crowd, tie it and still finish far ahead of the others. Running 17:49 at Derryfield Park in New Hampshire and 17:40 at Bethel are impressive accomplishments. Hannah Debalsi's course record of 17:41 might be in danger.
Brookfield's Juliet Bussell was 3rd last year and might move up one spot. She ran a strong 3rd at SWCs and has run well all season. Abigail Potticary of Rham and Rhiannon Richmond of Avon are the next returners from last year and should be in the top five.
