The SCC Coaches Invitational has become one of the biggest
invitationals in Connecticut with many teams seeing how they stack up against
competition throughout the state.
Highlighting the girl's competition was Southington's Megan Biscoglio meet record in the pole vault with of 11'8. The previous record was set in 2013 by Emily Savage of Weston. Biscoglio has already jumped 12'1 this season, which is about a foot and a half improvement where she was last year at this time of the year. The UConn bound senior has already made New Balance Nationals Emerging Elite with a goal of jumping 12'4 to make the championships section. She was awarded the Girls Field Event Performer of the Meet for her performances.
Moving up to the #2 ranked shot putter in the state was Celyna Custodio of Danbury who had a 3½ foot PR and reached the magic 40 ft barrier. The senior had five of her six throws over her old personal record. Her 40'0 throw is now the 39th best throw in the country this season and qualifies for NBIN emerging elite.
Just like last year's Class LL meet, Danbury narrowly defeated Glastonbury for the SCC Coaches Invite team title by a score of 69-66.5 Danbury coach Nick Fraticelli was pleased with the win and pointed to Lauren Moore's outstanding 1600m and 3200m double. Moore held off Rocky Hill sophomore by .7 seconds to win in 5:13.23 and came back to take 2nd in the 3200m with a time of 11:36. "Its great she can do that double because we will probably need it later in the year." He also noted how much of a surprise Custodio's throw was. "She just loves to lift, and this was the first week we backed down on her lifting and it really paid off."
Glastonbury was led by Erin McGill who won the 600m in a PR of 1:38.10 and came back to anchor the 4 x 400m and overtook Danbury for the win with a 4:10.73 which is now the 4th fastest time in Connecticut. Her efforts earned her the recognition of Track Performer of the meet.
