Thu., 10/20 ECC Championship Norwich
Golf Course 1:30 pm
Boys: 2016 Champions- Norwich Free Academy-36; Lyman Memorial-75 Brandon Mehlinger, NFA
Boys Individual:
There will be a new champion crowned in the boys race this year. Ledyard's Zachary King is the top returnee this year and will certainly contend for the individual title. He will be challenged by Silas Olsen (Lyman), Josh Cardinal (Lyman), Sam Whittaker (East Lyme), and Tom Readett (Fitch) who all ran well this spring season. The Norwich Golf Course is considered to be one of the toughest high school courses in the state and the boys race will be an exciting battle.
Boys Team:
The NFA boys graduate four of its seven varsity runners from last year. It will be very challenging for the Wildcats to defend their title as Lyman Memorial, Ledyard, and East Lyme will be in the mix. Lyman returns six of their top seven and will have a powerful front three in Olsen, Josh Mathewson, and Cody Cardinal that could present a strong threat to the rest of the conference on championship day.
Girls: 2016 Champions- East Lyme- 60; Norwich Free Academy-82 Sylvia Lawrence, Woodstock
Girls Team:
The girls race is always full of surprises when it comes to the team race. Last year the East Lyme girls put on a remarkable performance to win the title. The Vikings will be returning four of its seven top seven from last year as they look to repeat. The NFA Wildcats will always be in the mix. Stonington will be a team to keep an eye on after a very strong track season where they won the Class M championships in the 4 x 800m.
Girls Individual:
There will also be a new individual champion on the girl's side. Montville's Mady Whittaker is the top returnee from the last year. After a strong track season, the junior will certainly be a strong contender for the title. She will also contend with Rasa Kirvelevicius (East Lyme), Genevieve Buckridge (NFA), and Liz Gray (Stonington).
