Day 2 at Penn Relays

Fans of Connecticut high school track will have to wait until the nighttime to watch their hometown athletes.

But trust us, it could be worth the wait.

Darien teammates Alex Ostberg and Armstrong Noonan are entered in the 3,000-meter run, scheduled for 6:10 p.m. Ostberg, a third-place finisher in the two mile at the New Balance Nationals back in March, is the top seed based on his 8:48 effort in NYC. Noonan has done 9:09. New York's Aidan Tooker of Saratoga Springs, fourth at NBN, should be Ostberg's biggest threats.

In the mile run at 6:05 p.m., Wilton's Spencer Brown will be looking to improve on his PB of 4:12. He will certainly have the field to push him faster. Among the top competitors is Virginia's Drew Hunter of Loudoun Valley. Hunter won the two mile at NBN and was the 3K champion at last year's Penn Relays. He'll be looking to become only the second runner to win the mile and 3,000m at Penn, a feat accomplished by U.S. Olympian Matthew Centrowitz. Also scheduled are 4:08 milers, Luke Gavignan (Tappen Zee, N.J.), James Burke (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Sam Ritz (Germantown, Pa.). Gavignan captured the mile at Millrose in 2014 and Burke was the winner this year.
