Meet Information:

Connecticut high school and middle school coaches are invited to register their teams for the 8th Sloper Relays cross country meet starting at 4:00pm on Friday, September 21, 2018. The meet is open to Connecticut high school coaches and their high school age athletes competing on their high school team. This unique cross meet features divisions for 2-person and 4-person relays, including boys only, girls only, and co-ed relay teams. Each relay leg is approximately 1.5 miles with competitors in the 2-person divisions running twice. There are unlimited entries in each division.

Connecticut Middle School coaches are also invited to register their teams in the two Middle School events that are available this season with a traditional 1.5-mile race for Boys and Girls each in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Facility:

  • The meet is held at the YMCA Camp Sloper course/facility in Southington CT.
  • Parking - If you are a coach and you are PERSONALLY DRIVING YOUR OWN BUS and need to park at the YMCA property, please let us know in advance. These will be the only busses allowed to park at Camp Sloper.  
    All other busses will park at the Southington Drive-In located at 995 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Southington, CT 06489.  We will provide the drivers a map once you arrive.  Please pull forward to drop off your athletes so we don't back up the parking to the street.  Please don't call for bus to show up until you are ready to load up. 
    Spectator Parking - Suggested donation to the YMCA is $5.

  • Timing and results provided by Northeast Sports Timing Services.

Registration Procedures and Entry Limits:

  • Connecticut High School and Middle School coaches interested in participating in are required to submit an online Intent-to-Enter form at the Meet Registration page by 8pm on Friday, September 14, 2018 to enable them to acquire an ACCEPTED/CONFIRMED status for event registration in Athletic.net.
    The Intent to Enter form contains a new field where coaches are asked to estimate the number of athletes expected to compete.
  • Athletic.net Online Event Entry for Boys and Girls available at August 27, 2018.
  • Deadline for all Athletic.net event entries is 6:00pm Eastern, Sunday, September 16, 2018. 
  • High School Coaches can enter multiple Relay teams (A, B, C, D, etc) using the Athletic.net Register Athletes screen in the following divisions:
    Boys 2x3mi
    Girls 2x3mi
    Coed 2x3mi
    Boys 4x1.5mi
    Girls 4x1.5mi
    Coed 4x1.5mi
    Boys Freshman 4x1.5
    Girls Freshman 4x1.5
    Coed Freshman 4x1.5
  • High School Coaches: Important Notes for using Athletic.net for this meet:
    1. You can view and print a copy of your relay teams of either 2 or 4 runners by using the Finalized Entries button (upper right corner) at any time during the entry process.
    2. Your team entries will be grouped together by the event team you assigned, 'A' teams are blank while remaining teams are listed as 'B', 'C', 'D', etc.
    3. Take extra care to make sure that Coed teams are correctly assigned and filled with 2 or 4 runners since Boys and Girls are listed on separate sides of the divisions in Athletic.net Register Athletes screen during entry as well as separate sides of the screen in Entries View.
    4. You can change between the Register Athletes and View Final Entries screen as many times as you need during the entry process. When satisfied with your entries, PRINT the Final Entries page of athletes. Remember that you have until the final entry deadline to make any last-minute changes.
  • Middle School Coaches need to register ALL their runners using Athletic.net into either the Boys Middle School Race or the Girls Middle School Race.

  • Changes to Entries after Entry Deadline - Once the entry deadline has passed, please hold all changes to day of the meet. The team packets will contain a change form for any substitutions you want to make on day of meet.  Please bring completed form to Jeremy at NES Timing at finish line at least 30 minutes prior to start of each race.
  • EZ Meet Services administers all meet registration in conjunction with Athletic.net Event registration.

Entry Fees - Checks:

  • The high school team entry fee is $90.00 for a boys or girls only team only or $175.00 for both teams from one school.
  • The middle school team entry fee is $40.00 for a boys or girls only team only or $75.00 for both teams from one school.

  • All checks must be received prior to Friday, September 14th or email Dan Dachelet a copy of check request/approval for those bringing a hard check to the meet.
  • INSTRUCTIONS FOR OFFICIAL INVOICE: 
    Coaches are responsible for printing their Athletic.net Invoice to serve as their official meet invoice using the Athletic.net option. Do not send email requests for a meet invoice. Note that high schools registering a boys and girls team separately will be expected to pay the $175.00 fee for their school. Note that middle schools registering a boys and girls team separately will be expected to pay the $75.00 fee for their school.

Meet Rules:

Coaches, please pay special attention to the following:

  • To insure a fair and quality meet, CIAC rules will govern all events.
  • The meet is only open to Connecticut high school coaches and their high school age athletes competing on their high school team.
    • All six divisions will run simultaneously - the order in the coed divisions is up to the individual coach.
    • It is the responsibility of the outgoing runner to be ready for the handoff.
    • No batons necessary, just slap hands for the exchange. The exchange zone is about 30m long - no DQ for an exchange outside the zone.
    • Coaches will need to get their own splits.
  • The meet is only open to Connecticut middle school coaches and their middle school age athletes competing on their middle school team in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Awards:

  • A new individual award added to meet this year for the boy and girl who has the 'best' costume who will receive a plate full of sweets.
  • The top three teams in each relay division will receive a piled high plate of baked goods, including cookies, brownies, Rice Krispies Treats, etc.
  • Ribbons are awarded to all middle school participants.
  • Medals to top 15 Middle School competitors. Top 3 winning girls and boys school team receive large tray of baked goods using traditional cross-country scoring.
  • In line with our being a low key, fun-centric race and because many schools are already doing this on their own, we will be having a HIGH SCHOOL award for the school showing the most spirit.   This is not a Halloween costume contest, rather it's a way to show pride in school, team and our great sport.    Winning team receives tray of baked goods. All costumes must be G-Rated, non-controversial and able to easily be run in and not interfere with adjacent runners. Coaches are asked to ensure that all athlete costumes are appropriate. There is no award for Middle School teams, but they can still dress up if they like.
  • Middle School Awards will be presented first followed by High School at the amphitheater.

Medical:

  • Two trainers are on site with ice during meet. They will be located near the finish line.  An ambulance will also be on site.  We will have spotters in the woods to help locate runners who need aid.
  • Water - We have multiple water faucets on site along with water houses.  Please bring water bottles.  No cups will be provided.

Canned Food Drive

  • We will have another canned food drive to benefit the local food bank.  The most cans donated by a High School AND Middle School will receive a tray of cookies.
