From sprint doubles and distance breakthroughs to standout performances in the throws and relays, the week's competition showcased many of Connecticut's emerging stars. Several athletes produced massive personal-best improvements while others established themselves as among the state's top middle school performers heading into the summer season.

City Hill Athletes Dominate the Week
No program produced more top performances than City Hill Middle School

The boys were especially impressive, led by sprint standout Teron Gorham, who swept the week's fastest sprint marks. Gorham won the 100-meter dash in 12.06 and returned to capture the 200-meter title in 25.41 at City Hill vs. Oxford.
City Hill also controlled the 400m and relay events. Lucas Olivera Pacheco led the 400 meters at 58.76, while the school posted the fastest 4x100 relay of the week at 49.72 and won the 4x400 relay in 4:14.91.
Maliah Jenkins finished runner-up in the 100 meters (13.49), runner-up in the 200 meters (28.28), and added another second-place finish in the high jump at the City Hill vs. Oxford meet. Milana Jones produced the week's fastest girls 400-meter performance at 1:10.19, while City Hill captured the girls 4x400 relay title in 4:58.87.
In the field events, Joshua Thom delivered one of the most dominant performances of championship week, winning both the boys shot put (39-6) and discus (125-5) by substantial margins.

Sprint Stars Shine Across Connecticut
The sprint events featured some of the week's deepest competition.
On the boys side, Gorham led the state championship marks with his victories in the 100 and 200 meters, but several athletes challenged him throughout the week. Sebastian Vega (City Hill Middle School) ran 12.11 in the 100 meters, while Joseth Similien (Academy of Aerospace and Engineering) claimed the CREC title in 12.37 and later added a victory in the 200-meter with a 25.97 effort.
The girls races were remarkably close. Jaasiya Noori (Seymour) emerged with the fastest 100-meter time of the week at 13.47, narrowly defeating City Hill's Jenkins by just .02 seconds. In the 200 meters, Taela Stewart (Academy of Aerospace and Engineering) produced one of the week's best performances, winning the CREC title in 27.66.
Stewart's victory was especially impressive considering she lowered her previous personal best by nearly five seconds, one of the largest sprint improvements recorded all week.

Distance Athletes Deliver Breakthrough Performances
On the boys side, Ryan Capozza (Oxford) produced arguably the biggest breakthrough of championship week. The Oxford athlete entered the meet with a personal best of 6:56.60 in the 1600 meters and left with a winning mark of 5:37.53, improving by more than a minute and nineteen seconds.
The CREC Championships also saw a major breakthrough from Josier Torres Miranda (Academy of Science and Innovation), who dropped more than 33 seconds from his previous best to run 2:31.14 in the 800 meters and finish second.
Girls distance runners produced equally impressive performances. Grace Capozza (Oxford) won the girls 1600 meters in 5:37.53 while lowering her personal best by nearly 35 seconds. Olivia Tilki (Seymour) led the girls 800-meter rankings with a victory in 2:54.72.
Meanwhile, Valerie Lopez (Noah Webster MicroSociety Magnet School) recorded one of the largest distance improvements of the week, cutting more than 30 seconds from her previous best in the 800 meters.

Field Event Standouts Make Their Mark
Joshua Thom (City Hill Middle School)'s double victory headlined the boys competition, but he wasn't alone. City Hill teammate David Gyamerah (City Hill Middle School) improved more than 32 feet in the discus and nearly eight feet in the shot put during the week.
At the CREC Championships, Carter Flor (Academy of Aerospace and Engineering) produced one of the biggest improvements among all field athletes, adding more than nine feet to his shot put personal best.
The girls throws were highlighted by Kiara Quinde (CREC Civic Leadership). Quinde swept both throwing events, winning the shot put with a mark of 30-2 and the discus at 54-7. She also improved her shot put personal best by three feet during the CREC championship meet.
In the jumps, Madisyn Brown (City Hill Middle School) cleared 4-6 to claim the top girls high jump mark of the week, while teammate Maliah Jenkins (City Hill Middle School) added another podium finish at 4-4.

Hurdlers Rise to the Occasion
Alberto Rivera (Noah Webster MicroSociety Magnet School) captured the boys 55-meter hurdles title at the Hartford Middle School Championship in 9.11, the fastest time recorded during championship week. On the girls side, Ariyana Pickens (Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy) won in 10.40.
Several athletes used the championships as breakthrough opportunities. Ahnesty Wallace (CREC Civic Leadership) improved by nearly three seconds to run 11.33, while Tyler Williams (Noah Webster MicroSociety Magnet School) lowered his boys personal best to 10.53.

Relay Teams Deliver Championship Moments
Relay competition provided some of the most exciting performances of the week.
City Hill's boys squad led all teams with a 49.72 victory in the 4x100 relay and followed with another win in the 4x400 relay.
On the girls side, AF Hartford Summit captured the fastest 4x100 relay performance of championship week in 56.46. Academy of Aerospace and Engineering followed closely behind at 56.88.
The girls 4x400 relay belonged to City Hill Middle School, whose winning time of 4:58.87 stood as the top mark recorded during championship week.
