Connecticut Outdoors: May 18-May 24 Top Performers and Breakthroughs
Connecticut athletes continued delivering elite performances across division championships, conference meets, and postseason invitationals from May 18 through May 24.
Sprints & Hurdles
The sprint events were highlighted by Brenan McCabe (Immaculate High School), who swept both the 200 meters and 400 meters at the SWC Outdoor Championships. He clocked a state-leading 21.52 in the 200 while adding a 48.35 victory in the 400. His 400 performance ranked second statewide this week among 87 competitors. Lucas Nolte (Daniel Hand High School) narrowly edged McCabe for the week's top 400-meter mark after running 48.19 to win the SCC East Sectional.
Davian Johnson (East Hartford High School) delivered one of the state's top performances this spring after winning the 110-meter hurdles in 13.74 at the CCC North Division Championships. His mark stood as the fastest time in Connecticut this week among 24 competitors statewide.
On the girls side, Samiya Eady (Manchester High School) dominated the sprint competition at the CCC North Division Championships, sweeping the 100 meters in 12.01 and the 200 meters in 24.43. Both marks ranked atop the Connecticut leaderboard this week.
Lauren Kropo (Naugatuck High School) also produced one of the week's top all-around sprint performances at the NVL Outdoor Championships. Kropo captured victories in the 100, 200, and 400 meters, highlighted by a state-leading 55.51 in the 400. She also posted strong sprint marks of 12.11 and 25.02 in her shorter events.
Several athletes also delivered major breakthrough performances throughout the week. Craig Marsden (East Haven High School) posted one of the state's top improvements after dropping from 15.48 to 13.91 in the 100-meter hurdles at the SCC Boys Novice Meet, improving by over a second and a half.
Liam Seamans (Shepaug Valley) turned in a pair of standout breakthroughs at the Berkshire League Festival. The freshman improved from 13.84 to 12.70 in the 100 meters while also adding a massive leap in the long jump, soaring from 11 inches to 14-0.5.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Zachary Jeanty (Westhill High School) lowered his personal best by more than nine seconds with a 51.16 performance at Westhill at Stamford, while Jacob Smith (Fitch High School) dropped to 41.22 at the ECC Division 1 & 2 Championship.
On the girls side, Destini Telfer (Platt Technical High School) lowered her 100-meter best from 16.94 to 15.74, while freshman Imaliangelis Colon Tomasi (Seymour High School) delivered multiple improvements, including a 14.74 performance in the 100 meters and a 31.44 in the 200.
The girls hurdle events also featured major breakthroughs. Tessa Petras-Lkhayer (Hall High School) dropped more than four seconds in the 300-meter hurdles with a 53.88 performance at the CCC Central Division Championships, while Ashanti Francis (Lauralton High School) improved to 54.23 at the SCC West Sectional.
Distance
In the boys 800 meters, Ryan Monohan (New Canaan High School) posted the week's top mark with a 1:56.87 victory at New Canaan at Darien. Freshman Holden Hines (Xavier High School) continued his breakout season by winning Night of Speed in 1:57.04, while Yendri Ruiz (New Britain High School) captured the CCC South Division title in 1:57.06.
The boys 1600 meters were led by Joseph DeLuise (Oxford High School), who ran 4:22.80 to win the NVL Outdoor TF Championships. Jonah Schulman (Hall High School) followed with a 4:27.81 victory at the CCC Central Division Championships.
Night of Speed produced one of the week's deepest mile races, with Jackson Gould (Xavier High School) winning in 4:24.59 ahead of Breckin Burke (Portland High School) at 4:25.13 and Brahm Bulow (Avon High School) at 4:26.89.
The boys 3200 meters featured another standout performance from Teddy Hojlo (Unattached CT), who ran 8:55.53 at the RunningLane Track Championships. DeLuise doubled back to run 9:30.31 at the NVL Outdoor TF Championships.
Several athletes also posted major breakthroughs throughout the week. Jack Lorenz (Weston High School) dropped over 30 seconds in the 1600 meters to run 4:32.94, while Mason Head (Suffield High School) improved by nearly two minutes in the 3200 meters with a 14:03.53 performance.
On the girls side, Abigail Winslow (Weston High School) led the week's 800-meter performances with a 2:15.59 victory at the SWC Outdoor Championships. Freshman Kate Duggan (Joel Barlow High School) followed closely in 2:17.15.
The girls 1600 meters were highlighted by freshman Lauren Parrett (Glastonbury High School), who won the CCC North Division Championships in 4:57.17. Parrett also led the week's 3200-meter performances with an 11:20.27 victory, narrowly ahead of Cameron Mooney (Farmington High School) at 11:20.90.
Night of Speed featured another strong girls mile race led by Abigail Van Hoof (Avon High School) in 5:21.36, while Ruby Kuselias (Mercy High School) followed in 5:24.96.
The girls distance events also featured several major breakthroughs. Sasha Majancik (Bristol Central High School) lowered her 3200-meter best by nearly three minutes to run 14:55.06, while Callie DeLuise (Oxford High School) improved to 5:20.63 in the 1600 meters.
Jumps
The jumps were headlined by Jessie Singleton Jr (Bloomfield High School), who produced the week's top triple jump mark after soaring 47-1.5 to win the CCC Central Division Championships. Singleton also added a second-place finish in the high jump after clearing 6-2.
On the girls side, Evelyn Schwartz (Windsor High School) delivered one of the top field event performances in Connecticut this season, winning the triple jump at the CCC North Division Championships with a massive 39-5.5 leap. The performance represented a near-six-foot personal-best improvement.
Several athletes also posted major personal records in the jumps during the week. Franco Lopez (Wolcott High School) improved nearly five feet in the triple jump to reach 40-3.25 at the NVL Outdoor TF Championships, while Malikia Holley (Bristol Central High School) extended his best to 44-7 at the CCC Central Division Championships.
In the high jump, Marcus Graham (Bethel High School) cleared 6-4 at the Bill Mongovan High and Middle School Invitational, while Cameron Johnson and Abel Hilario of New Britain both improved to 5-10 at the Last Chance State Qualifier.
For the girls, Christianne Persson (Shepaug Valley) produced one of the week's best all-around field event performances. Persson jumped 16-11.5 in the long jump while also improving more than seven inches in the high jump to clear 4-11.75 at the Berkshire League Festival.
The pole vault also featured major movement, led by Sophie Dzilinski (Fairfield Ludlowe), who improved three feet to clear 10-6 at Ludlowe at Warde.
Throws
Khile Francis (Bloomfield High School) led the boys throws after launching 55-10.5 to win the shot put at the CCC Central Division Championships, the top mark recorded statewide this week. Francis also added a discus throw of 147-3 to place third.
On the girls side, Nevaeh Dailey (Plainfield High School) delivered one of Connecticut's premier all-around throwing performances at the ECC Division 3 & 4 Championship. Dailey won the discus with a throw of 138-1 - the top junior mark in the state this season - while also capturing the shot put title.
Isabel D'Alleva-Bochain (Woodstock Academy) highlighted the javelin competition with a winning throw of 134-11 at the ECC Division 1 & 2 Championship, leading all Connecticut competitors this week.
Several athletes also posted major personal-bests in the throwing events. Joseph Teixeira (Grasso Tech) improved nearly 45 feet in the javelin with a throw of 115-3 at the CTC Vo-Tech Outdoor Track & Field Championships, while Belsi Zunun (Weaver High School) added over 26 feet to his discus best with a 113-0 performance.
On the girls side, Tabitha Klimovich (Naugatuck High School) surpassed the 100-foot barrier in discus after improving to 103-7 at the NVL Outdoor TF Championships. Deirdre Baker (Notre Dame-West Haven) extended her javelin best to 120-6 at the SWC Outdoor Championships.
