Though only one 2021 outdoor state champ returns for this year in the vertical events as seniors dominated the boys pole vault and girls high jump last year, there is still an enormous of talent returning this year for the high jump and pole vault. In the boys high jump, last June's Open champ Maxson Pierre Louis will be taking on that meet's runner-up Timothy Watson who won the 2022 indoor title before finishing 3rd at New Balance Indoor Nationals and 2nd at Nike Indoors Nationals at 6-9. Indoor pole vault champ Steven Ditelberg is the top returner from last June's Open in an event that is starting to surge again following downtime in the Covid peak time.
On the girls side, 2022 indoor PV champ Ellison Weiner is back after finishing 2nd last June on a tie-breaker and going up to 11-9 this past March. In the high jump, Audrey Kirkutis has a lot of momentum going from indoor season after finishing 2nd in the Open, 1st in the New England championship, and 4th at NBIN, hitting 5-7 in her last two meets. But indoor Open champ D'Jior Delisser and the top returner from 2021's outdoor season Tia Stapleton will also be challenging up high.
