Gavin Sherry Posts US Number 2 Rated Result at Ocean State

Conard's Gavin Sherry ran to the win on Saturday in the Championship race at the Ocean State meet in Rhode Island with a 14:58.57 time for the 5K distance. The time earned him the second best speed rating in the nation this year of 196.48 behind only Leo Young of Newbury Park HS in CA who posted a 197.30 last week at the Woodbridge Classic.

Young's twin brother Lex finished 3rd at Woodbridge and now holds the 4th fastest speed rating in the nation on a very strong Panthers team, and at Ocean State Sherry's twin brother Callum also finished 3rd to post a top-15 national speed rating of 191.12. East Lyme's Luke Anthony was close behind in 4th and also topped the 190 rating.

Whether the two high-flying sets of brothers will face each other this season remains to be seen as the story line for the end-of-season national championships is changing fast. RunningLane's RXC2 has been rescheduled to December 6 to replace Nike's suddenly cancelled NXN team championship event, while the Foot Locker Nationals meet for individual runners is still on.

The speed ratings computed by Tully Runners for the top four guys at Ocean State are shown below.

Ocean State's full results can be viewed here but are not formatted yet for easy reading, and both the meet's official web site and the Wilbur Race System timing company's site have more viewable results.

The wrap-ups for the last two week's worth of CT running will be posted shortly as we relive an exciting recent few days for CT teams and runners at far-flung sites from NY to RI and CT to NH.
