Pomperaug junior Kate Wiser broke the Wickham Park 5K course record on Saturday, which is commonly used for the Connecticut Divisional and State Open championships as well as the Wickham Park Invitational, with her 17:39 performance in the Class L girls race at the 2019 CIAC Divisional Championships.
Wiser, the defending New England champion and CIAC State Open champion in cross country, broke the previous record of 17:41 held by one of Connecticut's all-time greats in Hannah Debalsi of Staples High School and set in 2013.
A returning Foot Locker Nationals All-American with a seventh place finish last year in San Diego, Wiser has had a limited racing schedule this fall, but showed on Saturday in her divisional race that is she is more than fit to replicate or even exceed her end of season performances from one year ago.
She will be racing on the same Wickham Park course in Manchester, Connecticut over the next two weekends at the CIAC State Open on Friday, November 1st and New England Championships on Saturday, November 9th.
