Last year, Hall High School celebrated their first state championship in 62 years. Well the Warriors track fans didn't have to wait another six decades as they repeated in dominating style Thursday night defeating New Milford 82-37.
Hall had a balanced team that scored in ten of the fifteen events but it was in the distance events where they made the most noise. Juniors Trey Cormier and Miller Anderson were involved in almost half their points. Cormier was a double winner, taking the 1600m and 3200m races and Anderson took the 1000m and teamed up with Naji Middleton, Yovan Rivera and Mason Stabile to break New Britain's 20 year old meet record in the sprint medley relay with a time of 3:39.66.
Without either of their star distance runners, Hall also squeaked out a .04 second win in the 4 x 800m over Amity. Paul Chavey, Jacob Rocheleau , Cole Canarie and Muhammad Ali combined to run a season best time of 8:15.86
Marcus Manson of Windsor also had a great night winning the 600m in 1:22.28 and 300m with a time of 35.39.
The jumps were ruled by George Stoughton of Wethersfield who won the high jump with a 6'2 jump and had a nine inch personal record of 21'6.5 to be a surprise winner in the long jump.
Another surprising win came from E.O. Smith senior Peter Tomanelli who came in as the 4th seed in the shot put and threw a nearly three foot personal best of 49'2.75 to earn his first state championship.
Girls Recap
Windsor girls started off the meet winning the 4 x 200m in 1:46.64, the sprint medley in 4:10.79 in the middle and finished off the night by taking the 4 x 400m in 4:28.16 to lead them in their 62- 47 win over distance powerhouse Guilford.
Junior Meredith Bloss of Guilford was a double winner taking the 1600m and 3200m races and was supported by her teammate Jacqueline Guerra who took the 1000m and came back to take 4th in the 200m.
Dinedye Denis, a transfer from Kansas to Simsbury took home two gold medals, taking the 55m in 7.31 and 300m in 40.78. She also helped her 4 x 200m take 5th place to make it a triple medal day for the former Midwesterner.
Denis' teammate Elsa Martin also took gold in the 600m running 1:40.44 and coming back to help her squad earn a silver in the 4 x 400m.
Hall's girls team took both jumping events with Olivia Bowes earning a five inch personal best with a leap of 17-02 and fellow junior clearing 5'0 for the first time to take the high jump.
