With the temperatures dropping under zero, many individuals managed to produced personal records, state qualifying times and meet records at the Elm City Relays held at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven CT.
The boys long jump was dominated by Career Magnet's Dyshon Vaughn who had three jumps over 22 ft with a best of 22'5.5 to break the meet record and take over the state lead.
Carly Carpino of Avon had an outstanding day with two meets records in the 55HH and the long jump. Her 17'4.5 jump was only an inch and a half off her best this season and her 8.58 in the hurdles is the 3rd best time in Connecticut this year.
One of the more exciting races of the day was the girls 1600m. Glastonbury's Alexandra Ross had built up a lead of about 40m when Rocky Hill's sophomore Elizabeth Stockman tracked her down over the last lap for the win 5:20.49 to 5:21.25.
Joe Pearl has been undefeated this season winning the Wintergreen Invitational and Rhode Island Classic 3ks. The Manchester senior added two more wins to his resume going down in distance winning the 1000m and 1600m races. He started the day with a 2:36.97 in the 1000m and his 4:26.43 was a meet and personal record.
In the girls pole vault, senior Megan Biscoglio of Southington maintained her state lead in the event with a 
mp of 11'9, which is only four inches off her best. Last year's outdoor State Open champion, is looking like a favorite to win the event once again.
The boys pole vault is becoming one of the most competitive events in the state with three boys over 13'6 and seven others only six inches behind. Chris Weir of Norwich Free Academy just propelled himself into contention for the State Open title with an indoor PR of 13'6 to break the meet record and tie for the state leading jump. Right behind him was Southington's Zach Burleigh jumping 13'0 ft for the third time this season.
The boys shot put is becoming much strong this year. The past two years, there were few boys over the 50 ft mark during indoor track. Already this season CT has three boys over the magic mark with several others getting close. Michael Browning of RHAM had already thrown over 54ft this season twice before. On Saturday, the junior set his PR and established a new meet record with a throw of 55-10.
The Hillhouse sprint medley relay of Ayesha Nelson, Nyimah Ambrose, Jada Boyd and Nyia White took over the state lead and set the meet record with a 4:22.59. At the end of the meet, Boyd, White and Ambrose teamed up with Safai Black came back to set another meet record with a 4:08.88.
The Hillhouse boys team of Manasseh Bekele, Naszier Torrence-Robinson, Deshaune Poole and Talib McBride matched their girl's accomplishment with a meet record of 3:33.57
