Connecticut had its share of podium finishes on Saturday at the Wickham Park Invitational
Tolland High teammates Katherine Deloreto and Hayley Collins repeated their performances of a few weeks ago at the Ocean State Invitational by sweeping the top two placements in the Championship race. Deloreto clocked the fastest time of the day by winning with a time of 18 minutes, 55 seconds for the tough five-kilometer layout. Collins earned runner-up honors with an 18:59 clocking. The talented tandem was followed by the Nutmeg State's Angela Saidman of Immaculate (third, 19:01), Hale Ray's Emily Sienna (fourth, 19:09) and Trumbull's Katelyn Romanchick (fifth, 19:31), In the team competition, it was Pomperpaug over Tolland with a 55-80 decision.
Drew Thompson of Fairfield Prep was one of just two runners to crack 16 minutes, finishing second in the boys' Championship race at 15:55. Sam Toolin of North Kingstown (RI) won the race at 15:52. Xavier freshman Robbie Cozean placed third in 16:23. Joe Pearl of Manchester was fourth at 16:25 and Brendan Murray of Cheshire finished fifth in 16:28. William Hall took the team hardware with an 89-92 victory over second-place Xavier.
Coginchaug sophomore Peter Schulten captured the Varsity Unseeded race at 16:30. Trumbull's Charlie Taubi was second in 16:37. In the Seeded race, Coginchaug tenth-grader Shane Henderson of Old Saybrook beat a tight field, breaking the tape in 16:55. Derby's Ken Little (second, 16:58) and Cnard's Sam Nanni (third, 16:59) were right behind.
In the girls' Varsity Unseeded race, Hopkins sophomore Maliya Elliswas second with a time of 20:04. Simsbury's Maeve Daily dominated the Varsity Seeded race with a 15-second win. She crossed the line at 19:34.
