Memorable Moments of 2015 Outdoor Season: Rivers sizzles 800m at NE meet

For the next week, MileSplit CT will post what it considers some of the highlights of the outdoor track & field season in the Nutmeg State.

It would be a near impossible task to list all of the great performance by our Connecticut athletes. Believe us, there were many. But we'll try our best to pick out the moments this season that truly stood out.

Without further ado....

Danae Rivers takes 800m title at New England meet

Danae Rivers has shown over the last year that she deserves to be listed among the nation's elite when it comes to the middle-distance events.

At the New England Championship on June 13, the Wilbur Cross junior flat-out proved it.

Rivers not only won the race, but clocked a nearly three-second personal best with a meet-record time of 2 minutes, 5.86 seconds (US #9). She defeated previous record-holder and 2013 winner, Hannah Parker of Coe Brown Academy (N.H.), who was second at 2:06.92.

Five days before the regional competition, Rivers out-raced the national-caliber talent of Staples' Hannah DeBalsi to win the mile at the State Open, a meet she was also first across the line in the 800m. She concluded her successful spring campaign by earning All-American status with her third-place finish in the 800m at the New Balance Nationals.
