National indoor mile champion and multiple state titlist Henry Wynne is not the only distance runner making some noise for Staples High. Freshman Hannah DeBalsi has been doing her part this year to occasionally steal the headlines. The fleet-footed ninth-grader won the indoor mile title at the CIAC State Open Championship and followed that effort with a surprising victory in the two mile at the New England Championship. On Friday, DeBalsi turned in one of her best performances to date on the track oval by beating a strong field in the 3,200-meter run at the 46th annual Glenn D. Loucks Games in White Plains, N.Y. DeBalsi won with a time of 10:20.7, a personal best by nearly 25 seconds and a clocking that ranks No. 10 nationally. Finishing second in the race was Bishop Feehan (Mass.) junior Abby McNulty with a PB of 10:28.05. Newburgh (N.Y.) junior Gianna Frontera placed third at 10:28.83.
