Anything That Gets Your Blood Racing Is Probably Worth Doing

Running across the Ben Franklin Bridge in the evening

Monday, November 2nd: Solo moderate run today. Our team was still riding the excitement from the win at States last weekend, so we had to make sure to channel that excitement in a positive way, instead of just letting all of our runs go off the rails today. I went out along Forbidden Drive, and turned around after the first bridge to cross over Roxborough into Manayunk on my way down to the river. Since we were limited to just low-moderate heart rate zones today, I allowed for the pace to naturally develop, and cruised through the first 15 minutes on my way up to pace. The hills factored in a little to my average pace, and I took them easy enough to stay in zone, but I still managed to get a good 1:02:04 minutes in today, averaging roughly 6:36/mile and getting down to 6:01 as my fastest mile. I was still feeling a little sore after the race over the weekend, so I didn't push anything too hard. Afterwards, I caught the end of a hurdle routine and static stretch with the rest of the varsity boys.

Tuesday, November 3rd: Recovery run on my own today. For everybody who was leaving the team and not running through Regionals, today marked the official last day of the season. In honor of that, they all ran a time trial, whether it be a 400 meter or 1600 meter effort. I wanted to make it back in time to watch all of the boys do their races, so I went out immediately at the beginning of practice for 31:16 minutes, averaging around 6:50/mile. I got back just in time to watch some of the runners do their races, and I completed a set of economy intervals around the track backwards in the outside lanes, to avoid interfering with the competition. Once everybody had cheered on the time trialers, we regrouped for 18 minutes of med-ball core exercises and a full foot strengthening circuit. Nearly the entire team ran a PR today, which was a great way for them to end the season, and I couldn't have been happier for everybody. This time trial was the culmination of several months of work for them, and it was great to see so many people absolutely kill it on the track.
