Q&A w/ Connor Rog

Mileplsit.Ct got the chance to do a Q & A with one of the Country's best track athletes. Connecticut State Champ, New England #1, 9:08 two miler, 4:19 miler,  are all terms associated with Connecticut's super star distance runner, Connor Rog. Rog, a senior at Fairfield Prep, has quite the list of accolades. He has been the Connecticut Gatorade Cross Country runner of the year, not once but twice. He has competed at Nationals at least once for each season.

In the last two Indoor Track seasons, Rog competed at New Balance Indoor Nationals. In the Nationals this past Winter, the Fairfield Prep star finished eighth in the two mile.

Last Spring, at New Balance Outdoor Nationals, Rog ran an incredible 5000 meter race and took seventh.

Last fall in cross country, Rog took ninth at the Footlocker Northeast Qualifier and then went on to finish eighteenth in the country at Footlocker Finals. Before competing in cross country Nationals, Rog finished second at the New England Championships. Milesplit ranked Rog as high as 25th in the Country last fall.

Aside from Nationals, Rog's prestigious meet attendance includes Penn Relays and Millrose Games. As a Junior, Rog took second at New England Championships for thirty two hundred meters. His personal bests are eye popping and he has as many accolades as any High School distance runner around. Connor Rog can run with the best of them and he will look to continue his dominance this Spring.

Milesplit Ct :   What is your favorite accomplishment in track or xc and why?

Connor Rog:  My favorite accomplishment would have to be coming 7th in 8:31 at Penn Relays last year. For many reasons it was a huge accomplishment. For one, it was a break through race for time. I had never really dreamed of being able to run close to 9:00 for the 3200, but after this race the future looked bright. It also was great because I raced hard and really got competitive with big time runners. It sort of put me on the map for college recruiters. It's too bad I couldn't run it again this year due to injury, but I am glad I got to get my name out there when it mattered most.

Milesplit Ct :  Will you be running in college next year?

Connor Rog:  I will be running in college next year. I'm proud to say I will running for the University of Virginia.

Milesplit Ct :  Who is your favorite professional track athlete?

Connor Rog:   My favorite track athlete would have to be Donn Cabral. He runs for Princeton now, but was a big time runner in CT for Glastonbury. He's a big inspiration to me.

Milesplit Ct :  What is your favorite track event? And why?

Connor Rog:   It's tough to say the distance events are my "favorite", but I am strong in the 2-mile and the 5k.

Milesplit Ct :   Do you have any big goals for this years spring track season?

Connor Rog:   The ultimate goal is to break 9:00 in the 3200. I have a limited amount of opportunities to do this, but I am looking forward to a 3200 race being held at the UVA track on May 12th. There will be a rabbit as well as the other 2 major UVA recruits and several in state runners, and the goal is to get everyone sub 9:00. I'd also like to run a fast 5k by the end of the season at NBN. 14:30 would be nice.

Milesplit Ct :  Finally, do you prefer track or cross country? and why?

Connor Rog:  I prefer cross country mainly just because it's interesting. It's not a constant circle, it's twists and turns and it makes for crazy races.
