Small Schools in Class S Pack a Wallop

The girls Class S meet was a story about two different paths to build a successful track team.  Immaculate of Danbury was the runner up on Thursday and scored 72 point to earn their trophy and every single point came from events 400m and up.  Whereas Bloomfield, who won their 11th straight Class S title scored all of their 124 points in events that need equipment, such as mats, blocks, sand or throwing implements.  

Junior Jillian Mars spent more time on the track than any other scoring Bloomfield athlete.  She won the 400m in in a meet record time of 56.29, came in 2nd in the 200m running 25.97 and was part of the winning 4 x 400m which ran 4:00.95.

Monique Anderson is the jumping queen of the team winning the high jump in 5'2, taking 2nd in the triple jump with a 35'0.75 and 4th in the long jump leaping to a 16'11. Adding points in the jumps is senior Jahleah Harris who won the long jump in 17'9.25 and took 3rd in the triple jump with a 34-10.25.

Outside the track stadium came 34 more points from the throwing area.  Senior Justyce Wilson threw the shot over 37 feet for the 2nd time this season to win the event in 37-05.5.  She came back to set a PR in the discus taking 4th in 102'2.  

Immaculate used their mid distance and distance strength to defeat 42 other teams that took part in the Class S meet.

The Mustangs started off the meet in the lead after their 4 x 800m team of Dominque Valentine, Molly Coyle, Emma Connolly and Taylor Mascetta crossed the line first in 9:48.45.  Three time All New England runner Angela Saidman and her teammate Mascetta went 1-2 in the 1600m with Coyle also doubling after the 4 x 800m to take 5th.  

Senior Emma Connolly defending her 800m title by running a near PR of 2:16.31.  Finishing only five seconds behind her teammate, sophomore Coyle pulled off an amazing triple by finishing 5th in 2:21.

Saidman came back and ran her best time of the season in the 3200m taking 2nd in 11:09.39 and pushed Kylie Raymond of Somers to a PR and NBON qualifying time of 10:55.75.

Also making Nationals was Rachel Fleischer of Derby who triple jumped 38-2.75.  This is currently the best jump in the state and makes her the favorite for the State Open on Monday.
