Gillian Wagner Interview - 3200m

Gillian Wagner (Redwood) set a meet record in winning the 3200m "Sombrero Heat" at the Dublin Distance Fiesta. Winners of the fast heats of this distance-only meet earn a sombrero, a unique aspect of this 11th annual event.

Wagner, headed to Princeton, finished in 10:29.45 (5:04 unofficial last mile; 1:07 last lap) to break the 2016 mark of 10:33.71 set by Kristen Leung (Lowell) to win her second sombrero in as many years. Wagner set the meet's 1600m record (4:55.35) in winning as a junior.

Wagner trailed Olivia O'Keeffe (Davis) until almost the bell lap before she took control. She ran unchallenged over her final lap, displaying an impressive kick. In this interview, she discusses her range (400-3200) and if she has a favorite distance.
