NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department has placed second out of 16 institutions in the 2011-12 Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup race. The Owls totaled 177 points to notch their highest finish and point total since joining the league. In the process, Southern Connecticut now has placed in the top three in the Presidents' Cup three times in the past four years. The Presidents' Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the Northeast-10 Conference and is awarded to the institution that compiles the most points based on the placement at the conclusion of the regular season of each of its programs which compete in league championships. SCSU is one of only two public institutions in the conference.

Points for men's and women's cross country, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, and men's golf are awarded based on placement in respective conference championships.

During the course of the 2011-12 academic year, the Owls won league championships in men's and women's swimming and diving, men's indoor and outdoor track and field and softball (regular season).

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
