Day One Meet Results

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Justin Escaravage (Brookfield, Conn.) and Jason Polakowski (Essex Jct., Vt.) of the No. 24 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's outdoor track and field team competed in the first five events of the decathlon on the opening day of competition at the New England Championships. The meet was held on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus in Cambridge, Mass. Escaravage is currently first with 3268 points, while Polakowski with 2877 points is seventh with the remaining five events to be finished Friday, May 11.

Both Owls are making their final push towards qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championships later on this month on May 24-26. Escaravage was previously ranked among the top student athletes in the nation for the decathlon with a score of 6401 points achieved at the UConn Decathlon Invitational. Unfortunately, his place has dropped a few places in recent weeks, but looks to join his fellow teammates who are in the running to qualify for the National Championships, Connor Coleman (Guinnson, Colo.) and Nick Lebron (Newington, Conn.).

Both Escaravage and Polakowski had strong showings in every event on the day. Escaravage finished finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.53 meters, followed by a second place honor in the shot put with a mark of 11.46 meters. He later managed third in both the 100 meters and 400 meters with times of 11.61 and 53.15, respectively. He also finished fifth in the high jump reaching a mark of 1.75 meters.

Polaskowski reached his best mark on the day in fourth for the shot put with a heave of 10.23 meters. He was also fifth in the 100 meters (11.76), eight in the long jump (5.51m), eight in the high jump (1.69m), and sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 53.50.

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow for Day Two of the New England Championships.
